Seedlings
At Seed our dedicated Propagation Group grows seeds and cutting for both our community picking beds, market garden and our developing bee and pollinator garden. Under the watchful eye of Fred our resident plant-whisper a retired Melbourne University horticulturalist, and in our greenhouse, we often produce more than we need. The extra seedlings spend some time outside in the local weather to make sure they are healthy, strong and have the best chance of thriving in their new homes.
Most seedlings are sold for $3 per pot, with occasional discounts on older stock or special marked prices for large or fancy sales. The money made goes directly back into growing more seedlings, educational opportunities and community events.
Seedling type follows seasonal trends and is mostly varieties of herb and vegetables, but we are starting to introduce some flower and native species as well. We aim to have somethings available all year round.
Fresh Eggs
Chickens are and important part of the seed garden and are managed by a group of volunteers who regularly check in on them to keep them healthy. We have some chicken friendly leaves children can pick to feed them and their nitrogen rich fertilizer is used to boost our compost production. We also sell our eggs at a discounted price to our members.
